What To Expect: Dog Daycare Edition

What to Expect: Your Pup's First Day at Daycare

We get it- leaving your furry friend at daycare for the first time can feel like dropping your kid off at kindergarten. You might wonder: Will they make friends? Will they be scared? Will they miss me?

At Pet Spa & Retreat, we've welcomed hundreds of nervous pup parents through our doors, and we want to ease those first- day jitters. Here's exactly what happens when your little pup spends their first day with us!

Before You Arrive: What to Bring
To make your pup's first day smooth and stress-free, bring:
- Vaccination records (we want to keep all our furry friends safe!)
- Any medications they may need with clear instructions
- Their favorite comfort item (optional)- a blanket or toy that smells like home
- Emergency contact information

Pro Tip: Skip the big breakfast that morning. Some pups get a little nervous tummy on their first day; a lighter meal helps them settle in easier.

Drop-Off: The Warm Welcome
When you arrive you will be greeted by our team- people who genuinely love what they do. We've been doing this for 8 years and trust us, we've seen every personality type from shy wallflowers to social butterflies!
We will take a few minutes to chat with you about:
- Your pup's personality and quirks
-  Any special needs or preferences
- Their energy level and play style
- What makes them happy (and what makes them nervous)

Then comes the hardest part for you: saying goodbye. Here's our advice- keep it quick and upbeat! Dogs pickup on our emotions, so a cheerful "see you later, buddy!" Works better than a long, emotional farewell.

The First Hour: Getting Acquainted
Your pup won't be thrown into the deep end! We start with a gentle introduction:
1. Meet and greet: We let your dog explore and sniff around at their own pace
2. One- on- one time: A team member stays close, offering gentle encouragement
3. Slow introduction: We carefully introduce them to one or two calm friendly dogs first

Some pups dive right into playtime. Others prefer to observe from the sidelines for a bit- and that's totally okay! We never force interaction. Every dog moves at their own speed.

Playtime: Where the Magic Happens
Once your pup is comfortable, the real fun begins! At Pet Spa & Retreat, we have:
- Intelliturf outdoor play area for running, chasing, and soaking up sunshine
- Two indoor playrooms for climate- controlled fun and socialization
- Supervised play groups matched by size, energy level, and play style

We specialize in small dogs, so your little pup won't be overwhelmed by giant breeds. They'll be friends with their own size, which makes for safer, more confident play.
Throughout the day, we rotate between active play-time and calm-down periods. Just like toddlers, dogs need breaks!
We provide:
- Fresh water stations
- Quiet rest areas
- Potty breaks on schedule
- Lots of love and attention

What If My Dog Doesn't Like It?
Honestly? Most dogs LOVE daycare once they settle in. But we understand every pup is unique.
if your dog is stressed or uncomfortable, we will:
- Give them extra one- on- one attention
- Try a quieter space with fewer dogs
- Call you with updates
- Work with you to create a custom plan to ensure their comfort

Some dogs take 2-3 visits to fully relax, and that's normal! We're patient, and we'll work at your pup's pace.

Pick-Up: Your Happy, Tired Pup
When you return, don't be surprised if your dog is:
- Exhausted (a good tired!)
- Super excited to see you (you were missed!)
- Possibly a little sore (new muscles from all that fun!)

We will give you a full report on their day:
- How they played
- Who their new friends are
- How much they ate and drank
- Any funny or sweet moments that we noticed

Tips For Success:
